Privacy Policy

Cooksake ("the app") is built to keep your recipes on your own device. This page explains exactly what data exists, where it lives, and the one case where anything leaves your phone.

What Cooksake stores

Everything you create in Cooksake — imported recipes, versions, cook logs, grocery lists, meal plans, and preferences — is stored locally on your device only. There is no user account, no login, and no Cooksake server database. Nothing you save is uploaded, backed up, or visible to anyone but you. If you delete the app, that data is gone unless your device's own backup (e.g. an iCloud device backup) includes it.

What gets sent to AI, and when

Cooksake uses OpenAI to power a few specific features:

Turning an imported link, photo, or typed text into a structured recipe
Suggesting a lighter version of a recipe ("Make it healthier")
Generating a photo of a dish ("Generate a photo of this dish")

These features only run when you actively trigger them.

When you use one of these features, only the specific content involved — the link, the photo, the text, or the recipe's title and ingredients — is sent to OpenAI for processing. Your broader recipe library, cook logs, grocery lists, and meal plans are never sent anywhere. Because Cooksake has no accounts, no name, email, or personal identifier is attached to these requests.

OpenAI processes this content to generate a response (the structured recipe, the remix, or the image) and returns it to the app. Cooksake does not control how OpenAI itself retains or uses data submitted to its API — see OpenAI's own policies for details on their handling of API requests.

What Cooksake does not do

No advertising, ad trackers, or third-party analytics SDKs
No selling or sharing your data with anyone — there is no data to share beyond what's described above
No access to contacts, location, or any device data beyond the camera/photo library permission you grant when importing a recipe photo

Deleting your data

You can delete everything Cooksake has stored at any time from Settings → Clear all my data. This immediately and permanently removes every recipe, cook log, grocery list, and meal plan on your device. Because there's no server-side copy, this is a complete deletion, not just a local one.

Children's privacy

Cooksake is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them — in practice this is straightforward, since Cooksake doesn't collect personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If how Cooksake handles data changes — for example, if a new AI-powered feature is added — this page will be updated to reflect it.
